Volunteers who don't have e-mail addresses?

Hi,

We are still quite new to using Vbase Cloud.  We have started interviewing using the Kiosk, but it won't let us 'apply' for opportunities unless the volunteer has a valid e-mail address.  Are there any dummy e-mail addresses that we can use?   Or are we supposed to encourage volunteers to create a gmail or hotmail account?   Apologies if this has been discussed previously, i've searched the forum and user guiode and can't find any information relating to this.

Hi Kerry,

It is recommended to encourage volunteers to create an email account which will make the future communications and activities through VBC easier.

You could use any dummy email address but atleast one field out of three, (Email, First Name, Last Name), needs to be unique for a new volunteer record.

Thanks

Hi Gopi,

Thanks for your reply, we thought that might be the case.   We will ask them to create an e-mail address.

Many Thanks

Oh.  I thought that VBC allowed a volunteer to be created without an email address.  Obviously using a dummy email address is the solution (which you can't do in Do-it because it has to be unique itself).

But I would think that it would be more satisfactory to make email address for local volunteers optional.  I really don't like workarounds!!!!!!!

We have a number of older people that volunteer in our area and they simply do not use modern technology and do not have an email address. We can create a dummy one I guess but shouldn't VBC be able to allow for this? As said before, it is another workaround.......

VBC has taken the basic design from ivo/Do-it (who really don't understand these sort of factors).  VBC is also partly based on old V-Base and email address was not required in that software.  So let's hope that VEDA can make this small change.

Hi everyone,

Email, Firstname & Lastname fields are used to track duplicate records. Removing Email from required field will result in duplicate volunteer records when someone applies for more than one opportunities.

When using dummy emails, please make sure First Name and Last Name fields are set as required fields to avoid duplicate records. This can be done by following the steps below

  1. Navigate to Administration >> Volunteers >> Volunteer Information Form >> Fields
  2. Edit First Name and Last Name adn set the fields as required.
  3. Save the changes

Thanks

I may be misunderstanding this conversation but unless something has changed you can definitely add a volunteer with no e-mail address as I have been doing it. Most of our vol drivers are elderly and do not always have e-mails so just add them without. Is it just in the kiosk mode or when you want a vol to apply for an opp? I am hoping I can still add vols with no e-mails as it will be a nightmare if not.

Gopi

Hi Lorna,

It's just in the Kiosk mode application. You could add volunteer records with no e-mails on VBC.

Thanks

Reena

Hi all,

We have a number of enquiries from volunteers with the same first name and surname, and would usually check if address/tel no or email in order to verify if duplicate.  Even if this is just in kiosk mode I agree with Richard we should NOT have work arounds.
